Some of our Young Life girls were over on Saturday, and they were freaking out because they had just seen the new Hannah Montana movie in 3-D. It’s not really a movie, but Disney has marketed it so that they can just show her concert over and over again to those who can’t get tickets and make boucou money. The popularity of this girl, especially considering she is Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter is simply astounding. This show is a marketer’s dream come true, because you can sell anything with her name on it. I saw an ad in Walmart last week that was nothing but Hannah Montana merchandise. It’s amazing to me how certain shows can become so popular. They have to have all the right ingredients, or just dumb luck. Why is it that some shows don’t quite make it? Maybe, it’s their market segment. Others come and go like Barney and Friends. Still, some others just creep me out. One thing is for sure. As long as there are kids and families, there will always be a huge market for kids merchandise and entertainment.
