It’s a different way of life when you live out in the country. Things that matter so much in the city, just don’t seem to make much of a difference out there. When people are so worried about their social life, reputation and keeping up with the Joneses, country folk worry about the weather, who won the ball game, and if their kids are growing up right.
You don’t tend to see a lot of people making a stink about organic clothes, organic cosmetics or hybrid cars. Instead you see a lot of people caring about buying American cars and getting warm clothes for the winter. My wife and I went into a store called Norman’s, where they sell clothes cheap. We were able to get some winter bibs for $10 each. There were no real name brands except for a good care of boots. Kids don’t wear Abercrombie or Hollister. They find a good Michigan sweatshirt, and hand it down to their little brother.
These are hard working people. They care greatly about the country. Many parents run their farm and slip on a different uniform for the night shift. They work at hospitals, as firemen, or anywhere else they can bring in a second income. And they do so much of it, so they can send their kids to get a good education.
It’s so sad to see these farms that are dying off because the kids were able to go to college, and they never return home again. I guess that’s what the parents wanted, but now the parents are dying alone on the only thing they know – the farm. The country is a different place.
