The Bride

I recently read a book called The Divine Romance by Gene Edwards, and it was a fantastic read.  There has never been a better explanation to me of what the Bride of Christ is all about, and never have I wanted to be a part of the Bride so badly.  Edwards uses fiction but recounts biblical stories.  The book opens with creation and the beauty of Eve.  It then follows Israel coming out of Egypt, and then jumps again to when Jesus is on Earth.  It concludes with the cross, the resurrection, and then the new Jerusalem.  All throughout, you have the perspective of the angels, which is just cool.

As I was reading in bed having new revelations, the idea of marriage as a metaphor was made incredibly clear to me.  Marriage was instituted by the Father simply to reflect the love given and received from God and his bride.  Understanding the Father and his pursuit made me want to love my wife fully.  I wanted to shower with praises and gifts.  It may have been bad timing around Christmas.  She was able to get  her Countess Isserlyn, organic clothing, and other gifts.  But I loved it.  It was amazing for me to shower her with gifts.  God’s abundant love for his bride is poured out like this all the time.

I’ve found a new favorite author with Gene Edwards.  He’s kind of like a Texas version of C.S. Lewis.  I’ve ordered his Chronicles of the Door series, and can’t wait to dive in.
