I am constantly amazed at how much pressure our society puts on our image, particularly our physical image. Media screams out to hungry ears that youth, beauty, and sex are paramount. Millions and millions of dollars are spent every year on the empty attempt to stay young and look your best. Money is spent on beauty supply equipment, plastic surgery of breast implants and the like, cosmetics like Alexandra de Markoff are devoured by women who fear middle age, and the list goes on and on. New diets swarm through the country at a viral rate, and our young people are brainwashed into the fact that your teenage years are the best of your life – “My glory days were in high school when I was young and good looking.” What the crap???? What is wrong with people? Why are you trying to hold onto something that is so obviously out of your control.
We need to seriously wake up! Am I saying we become lazy sloths, eating fast food and wearing nothing but something like this all the time? No. Is there some importance to physical training and discipline? Yes, but only to this extent. We need to bear in mind that we are fading. We are no more than a flower in a field that withers. Even if you don’t believe in the after life, our years on this planet are but a mere blip in the history of earth. Shouldn’t we put a little more time in focusing on things that are more important than how we look?
